Introduction
Forced steering is the independent steering of a semi-trailer/trailer depending on a specific articulation angle. This independent steering can be implemented via a steering linkage or electronic steering.
In such a forced-steering vehicle, a so-called steering function describes the steering angle (SA) to which the reference steering axle (usually the last steerable axle) is set at different bending angles (BA).
Manual steering / remote steering refers to a situation where the trailer has an additional steering system and can be steered by remote control. With manual steering, the maximum steering angle of the reference steering axle (usually the last steerable axle) is used to the full extent if necessary.
Friction-steered axles steer in line with the movement of the vehicle due to friction, as with a shopping trolley.
Maximum bend angle / articulation angle: The bend angle (BA) is (viewed from a bird's eye perspective) the angle between the vehicle in front (e.g. the tractor unit) and the trailer or semi-trailer.
