Long calculation time of the swept path

Causes and tips

Will I be notified if a narrow section is impassable?

For driving maneuvers that reach the limits of the vehicle's maneuverability or that are difficult to perform simply due to the geometry (dimensions of the loaded vehicle vs. free space in the route section), HeavyGoods always tries "more intensively" to find a solution by applying various strategies and evaluating complex maneuvers.

In such cases, a calculation can sometimes take several hours. If no suitable passage option is found, the calculation stops and the user is informed. The user then receives a partial maneuver that can provide information on where the vehicle could potentially "get stuck". The partial maneuver can be played back as usual using the play button at the bottom of the screen.

How do I get a driving maneuver more quickly?

You usually receive driving simulations following a guideline within a few seconds. Simulations with automatic driving maneuver checks are also usually calculated within a few seconds or minutes.

In individual cases, however, a calculation can take several hours. What are the most common causes of long calculation times?

  • Large narrow sections.

    • Recommendation: Large narrow sections should be divided into several sections, which are max. 250 meters long or wide. Small road sections are simulated faster and also the test reports and swept areas are generated faster.

  • Small Narrow sections/ many obstacles that can only be passed with a lot of maneuvering

    • Tip: If possible, obstacles can be deactivated in the simulation or the passable area (green area) can be enlarged.

  • Vehicle combinations with many degrees of freedom (e.g. several articulation points and/or activated post-steering).

    • Tip 1: As an alternative to automatic maneuver tests you can run simulations along a predefined guideline. This calculates faster because there are fewer degrees of freedom.

    • Tip 2: Simulations with forced steering (instead of with the additional manual steering/post-steering) also lead to faster results. For details see Choose the correct steering

I still need support

If you still think that your simulations take too long to calculate, you can open the problematic simulations in the app and give us access to them via the orange support button in the app. Then we'll be able to take a look at what's wrong with your simulations. For the access to the corresponding simulation, we need your consent. Therefore, please check the box in the dialog window.
